Reading the Essentials Living Water Product Manuals!

.The use of this web page does not excuse a user from reading his/her own Owners Manual.

Questions/Answers.

Tip on handling too much water pressure.

Questions about well water.

Since you can download the manuals themselves, why is this web page offered? Because people usually don't read their manuals. Even highly ambitious distributors tend to skip this step. It's too much like work. Chippynews.com might be able to make the process more interesting by mixing and matching details from all three units at once. Everything isn't covered (meaning that you'll still have to look at your own Owner's Manual), but this will give our distributors a pretty good overview.

All 3 manuals have a line drawing of the unit on their cover...

Programming your C7

The first section is called Important Safety Information. You are responsible for reading your manual and your customers are also responsible. However, if you've read one manual you've read the Safety Information for all three. This page and the next are consistent from unit to unit. On page 2, 15 bullet points tell you how to reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock or injury. To enable a quicker review, Chippynews.com combined and shortened some of these safety instructions/warnings... reducing their number to 12. In some cases, boldface, shaded, red type or underlining have been added for emphasis, and explanatory notes are occasional offered.

1. Use only as described in this manual. Use only manufacturer's recommended attachments.

2. Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands. Unplug cord from outlet before servicing or replacing filters.

3. Do not use with damaged cord or plug. Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.

4. Do not operate if connections leak or if any leakage is noticed when unit is turned on.

5. Aside from filter replacement or the use of the cleaning cartridge, which is accessed by a removable cover panel, there are no self-serviceable components. Do not attempt to remove the back cover or access the units inner workings.

6. Keep unit away from extreme conditions. Operate it in a clean and dry area. Never allow the unit to sit in standing water.

7. Never attach any plumbing or tubing to the flexible dispensing hose. Serious damage can result from any misuse.

8. Your water must be micro-biologically safe.  This is an ionizer, not a purifier.

9. This unit may be used in conjunction with pre-filters. It is not intended for use with reverse osmosis systems or softened water.

10. If the unit is not used for a week, unplug it and remove the filter. Let it drain, and store it in a clean plastic bag in the refrigerator (not the freezer). Immediately after reinstalling it, run acid water for 1 minute and alkaline water for 3 minutes before drinking.

11. An automatic cleaning cycle that occurs after every 13 gallons of water flow. Do not drink the water during the cleaning cycle. The citric acid cleaning cartridge is used every 2,850 liters (all three units tell you when this cleaning is due) to clean the system and help keep minerals from building up on the electrodes.

12. No medical claims have been made by the manufacturer or distributor. Always see your physician at the first sign of illness. The manufacturer or distributor is not responsible for adverse effects that may result from the use or misuse of ionized water.

CAUTION: Damage could occur if unit is exposed to hot water. Be certain that only cold or room temperature water enters the water ionizer. A temperature sensor will protect the unit temporarily, but continued use of hot water will damage the ionizer.

page 3 - .PLEASE READ THIS MANUAL PRIOR TO INSTALLATION AND OPERATION.

Failure to install according to the Installation Guide and in accordance with applicable city, state and local plumbing codes can result in leaks and/or water damage and will void your warranty. Consult a professional for installation. We expressly disclaim any liability for damage caused by leaks and/or water damage.

Chlorine and pH Test Reagents

? Do not expose the pH or chlorine test reagents to extreme heat or flames. They are combustible. Store in a cool/dry location. Keep the reagents tightly sealed and out of the reach of children. Out of the reach of children.

? Do not drink the pH or chlorine test reagents or allow them to get into your eyes. Do not apply to the body.

« If either is ingested, induce vomiting immediately and call a physician

« If either gets into your eyes, flush immediately with cool water

« If either is ingested, wash off immediately with cool water

Disclosures

? No medical claims have been made by the manufacturer or distributor or are they responsible for adverse effects that may result from the use or misuse of ionized water. A nearly identical statement was made at the end of page 2.

? Verify with your physician that prescribed medications or existing conditions will not be affected by drinking alkaline water. Do not take medications with alkaline water as alkaline ionized water may increase the effectiveness of the medication.

? Do not drink alkaline water if you have achlorhydia. [Added by chippynews.com: ACHLORHYDIA is an overgrowth of bacteria in stomach resulting in low HCl secretion which will cause high Gastrin levels. Not common, but here is a link.]

? Consult your physician before drinking alkaline water if you have:

« A chronic disease

« A dysfunctional liver or intestines

« Are currently under medical treatment

? Consult your physician before if you have sensitive skin or allergies before using acidic water on your skin or hair.

? Consumption of water that is too high (greater than pH 9.5) may cause diarrhea or other symptoms.

pH is measured on a logarithmic rather than a linear scale (similar to the Richter Scale for describing the intensity of earthquakes). A very rare level 7 earthquake is 10 times stronger than a level 6 earthquake and 100 times stronger than a 5. Thus, when you go from pH 8.5 to pH 9.5 you are increasing the percent of hydrogen ions by a factor of 10.

? The unit is NOT INTENDED for use on microbiologically unsafe water. If you are unsure of the safety of your water source, have your water tested by a qualified water testing laboratory. [In other words, municipal water supplies should be perfect unless a local warning has been issued.]

Water testing is available through private test labs and through most counties. This link to a county near Minneapolis give you an idea of the cost and procedure. Find a similar service in your area.

? Failure to read your own manual and comply with its installation and operation instructions may invalidate the warranty. We are not liable for damage to the unit or personal injury as a result of improper installation or operation of the system.

IMPORTANT: Do not drink any of the following water types:

« ANY acidic water

« High pH alkaline water (above 9.5 pH)

« Water produced during the auto flush (electrode cleaning) process

« When no pH value is displayed on the LED display.

« When the C7/U7/P3 unit has not been used for more than two days, let water run for 30 seconds before collecting and using.

Page 5 shows the accessories for normal installation. It is the same for the C7 and P3 but different for the U7.

Carefully unpack your water ionizer, making sure all parts listed on this diagram are enclosed.

The undercounter unit (U7 - shown on right) includes a water pre-conditioning assembly that incorporates stage 1 and 2 filter and mineralization cartridges.

The quality and content (types of minerals) of the source water provided to the water ionizer has a direct affect on the quality of the ionized water produced. This is true of ANY water ionizer. Municipal tap water typically has a pH value between 7.1 and 7.3 and a moderate water hardness (between 80 and 140 parts per million). Such water will generally result in the production of high quality ionized water. Water supplied from other sources may vary considerably in quantity and content. Low pH water (typical of some well water) may require an additional remineralization cartridge to enhance water ionization. Water with excessive sediment (typical of well water) generally requires a sediment prefilter. Your distributor can help you decide if additional waterconditioning is required.

Pages 6 and 7 show INSTALLATION instructions, notices and warnings. Each Owners Manual has its own diagram and instructions, and we refer you to your own Manual.

The U7 installation diagram is presented here, as it is the most complicated.

Certain safety notes are the same for all models, such as:

1. Failure to install according to the Installation Guide... (same warning as is provided on page 3 - see above).

2. Electrical safety and standing water reminders.

3. The unit must operate on a FLAT/hard/level surface.

4. Maximum water pressure is 50 PSI. Operating the ionizer above this pressure will cause damage to the unit.

5. Use only cold water.

6. Do not drink the cleaning cycle water.

7. Use the "Filtered Water Only" setting when taking medications. Alkaline water will increase the potency of many medications. Check with your physician to make sure prescribed medications for existing conditions will not be adversely affected by drinking alkaline water on a daily basis.

ALL MODELS: Insert water supply and drain lines into the quick connects until they will not go in any further. Use of the locking clip to prevent the tube from coming loose is a must. Give each line a slight tug at the point of connection to make sure the lines are properly connected and that they do not slip out. This step will insure proper installation and avoid possible leaks from improperly installed lines.

Page 10 or Page 11 is where the sections on unit OPERATION begin. Each unit is different...

As stated throughout this web page, this is not the actual Owners Manual. This page is for training and familiarization. Some (but not necessarily all) of the operational highlights of each unit will be explained.

Operating the U7 unit (drawing shows display on the Delivery Faucet):

Press the ALKALINE button to move the water selection from L to M to H to CLN.

H delivers 9.5 pH drinking water - drink from the upper spout.

M delivers 8.5 pH drinking water - drink from the upper spout.

L delivers 8.0 ph drinking water - drink from the upper spout.

CLN delivers filtered tap water - drink from the upper spout.

Use "filtered" water when preparing baby formula and when taking medications.

Turn on the special U7 water Delivery Faucet.

Alkaline water flows from the upper spout in approximately 10 seconds.

Acidic water flows from the lower spout. Do not drink the acidic water.

The LED screen will be green.

After a short period the screen returns to dark to conserve energy.

Press the ACIDIC button to select a desired acidic pH.

Acidic water flows from the upper spout in approximately 10 seconds.

Alkaline water flows from the lower spout.

The LED screen will be red.

Each time the faucet is shut off, the system returns to the Alkaline mode in readiness for the next user.

Automatic Electrode Cleaning - Your system is programmed to enter the cleaning mode after each 50 liters of ionized water is produced. The cleaning process is short, requiring only 1 liter of water to pass across the electrodes. After 2,850 liters—58 cleaning cycles—the unit requires the use of a citric acid cleaning cartridge.

The Electrode Cleaning process is explained on page 15. The system must remain idle for 5 hours (probably overnight).

Operating the C7 unit (drawing shows display on the face of the unit):

When you select a pH level of water, the LCD display will flash within 2 seconds. The first screen indicates the pH/ORP. The second screen shows the water flow.

Operating the U7 unit (drawing shows display on the Delivery Faucet):

C7 Waters that can be selected

Programming your C7

Acidic

Acidic water is a pH level of 5.5; however, a pH as low as 2.6 can be achieved if the optimal Super Charger Filter is utilized. Acidic water is an astringent, not a drinking water.

Filtered water

Neutral water is a pH level of 7.0. This water should be used when taking medicines making baby formula.

Alkaline 1

Alkaline 1 is a pH level of 8.5. Begin drinking water from this level for the first week, gradually increasing your consumption.

Alkaline 2

Alkaline 2 is a pH level of 9.0. Drink water from this level once you are adjusted to Alkaline 1, gradually increasing your consumption.

Alkaline 3

Alkaline 3 is a pH level of 9.5. Drink water from this level once you are adjusted to Alkaline 2, gradually increasing your consumption. This is the ideal setting once the body has adjusted to alkaline water. In the fourth week and thereafter, use this water for drinking, cooking, coffee and tea

Alkaline 4

Alkaline 4 is a pH level of 10.0; however, a higher pH level of 11.4 can be achieved with the use of the optional Super Charger Filter. High alkaline water is excellent for cleaning.

First screen indicates the pH/ORP. The second screen shows the water flow.

P3 Waters that can be selected

Acidic

(same as C7)

Acidic water is a pH level of 5.5; however, a pH as low as 2.6 can be achieved if the optimal Super Charger Filter is utilized. Acidic water is an astringent, not a drinking water.

Filtered water

(same as C7)

Neutral water is a pH level of 7.0. This water should be used when taking medicines making baby formula.

Alkaline 1

(slight difference)

Alkaline 1 is a pH level of 8.0 to 9.0. Begin drinking water from this level for the first week, gradually increasing your consumption.

Alkaline 2

(slight difference)

Alkaline 2 is a pH level of 9.0. Drink water from this level once you are adjusted to Alkaline 1, gradually increasing your consumption.

Automatic Electrode Cleaning

See your Owners Manual for the display details (which vary from unit to unit). The cleaning intervals and methods of cleaning are the same on all three models.

Testing the pH - .This segment applies primarily to distributors (for marketing) and is not something customers have to be concerned with..

? Keep the testing kit away from fire and, of course, away from children.

? Testing kit liquid and/or water with testing solution should not be ingested or allowed to contact eyes. If the solution comes in contact with eyes, flush the eyes with water and go to the hospital immediately.

? If accidentally ingested, drink a lot of alkaline water and go to the hospital immediately.

Testing - used for testing tap water, Filtered water and acid/alkaline water from your Essentials Living Water ionizer. Put water samples in clear plastic containers, clear drinking glasses or test tubes. Narrow containers are better because a small amount of water makes a taller column.

1.  Add 2 drops of the pH/chlorine testing solution to sample.

2.  Compare the resulting hue to the pH color test chart. The corresponding hue is the pH level. The chart shown on this web page may not be the same as the color chart that comes with your pH solution. This chart is for training purposes.

3. The chlorine test result should be yellow from your municipal tap water (showing the presence of chlorine) and colorless from the ionized water.

Acid or Alkaline?

Your body is more water than anything else. The question is, what kind of water is it?

Even if you drink enough water every day (and not many of us do), has it ever occurred to you that your bottled or purified water may actually be acidic?

If acidic liquids (sports drinks, bottled waters...even the expensive ones...and soft drinks) are a part of your drinking habits, we are happy to bring you water the way it should be: basic, natural, and essential.

Now you can bottle your own and take it with you ever day, even to restaurants, even when you travel.

Do you drink at least half your body weight, in ounces, of healthy water every day?

Your body was about 80% water when you were born. As we age, we tend to become dehydrated and our bodies acidify. You can help fight the effects of aging simply by drinking the proper amount of the right water every day.

FREQUENTLY  ASKED  QUESTIONS

Questions and Answers from the Owners Manuals

The questions have numbers [1 left, 2 left, etc.] so you can send someone to this section and tell them what answer to look for.

updates and water requirements

Q[1 left].  What is the white powder that sticks to the cup or bottle?

A.  Alkaline-forming minerals, including calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron, and manganese. The white power will appear after boiling alkaline water. It is safe to consume.

Q[2 left].  What kind of water should be used?

A.  Only potable* water should be used with the Living Water Essentials unit. *Water that is safe for human consumption.

Q[3 left].  Do I have to unplug the unit if I don't use it in one week?

A.  Yes, please remove the filter from the unit. Drain the water from the filter and store it in a clean plastic bag, and unplug the unit. When you need to use it again, install the filter and let it run for 3 minutes before you drink.

Q[4 left].  Why are there little bubbles in the ionized water?

A.  The water mixes with air during the ionization process.

Q[5 left].  Why is it unsafe to take medicine with ionized water?

A.  The water makes the medicine more absorbable in the body. A 50 mg tablet could affect your body as if it were a 100 mg tablet. Note: This answer does not mean that all medications are doubled in potency. This is just an illustration. All medicines are different. That's why it is correct to take all medications with standard water.

Q[6 left].  Can a baby drink alkaline water?

A.  No, a baby should drink regular filtered water, or pH level 7.0.

Q[7 left].  Who should drink ionized water?

A.  Everyone except infants, including young and old, and animals. The alkaline effect will be beneficial to some degree to nearly everyone and everything it comes in contact with.

Q[8 left].  What guidelines do we follow if someone has a well?

A.  Provided by the company for C7, P3, and U7 (updated on 11/23/09)

1. RESTRICTIONS: Living Water Essentials units cannot be used in conjunction with Reverse Osmosis (R/O) water systems or water softener systems. If these type systems exist in the application then a direct water line is required bypassing these systems.

2. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Identification of the water source – city (municipal) or well water (well water requires a water report).

3. Consumer must provide water readings from their water source: [1] TDS Reading, [2] pH, [3] Dynamic pressure of between 7 to 50 psi is required.

4. CONDITIONS OF THE WATER SOURCE:

  • Check TDS reading against rating

  • Check pH reading against rating

  • Check water pressure against range requirements

TDS:

50 80 low range for TDS

81 – 150 mid range for TDS

151 – 700 high range for TDS

700 plus requires other filtration (not supplied)

pH Ratings: Average pH range 6.5 – 8.5

Note: pH below 6.5 or greater than 8.5 the water unit will not operate within the stated levels

5. EXAMPLES OF UNIT OPERATION: C7 - This unit is programmable based on the TDS reading.

  • TDS 50 –80 unit needs to be programmed to a high setting

  • TDS 81 –150 unit is currently set to the mid range setting

  • TDS 151 – 700 unit needs to be programmed to a low setting

  • TDS over 700 require additional filtration is required other than the TR-1 or TR-2 options

WATER UNIT P3 - non-programmable

  • TDS of less than 80 will require the TR-1 with remineralization filter

  • TDS readings over 700 require additional filtration other than the TR-1

WATER UNIT U7 - requires use of the TR-2 system and filters

  • TDS readings over 700 require additional filtration besides the TR-2 system

Requirements for all LWE water units (C7, P3 & U7)

  • For drinking purposes the water flow rate is 2 – 2.5 lpm

  • For clean & disinfecting Extremes* the water flow rate is 1.0 lpm for c7 & p3 units and 1.2 lpm for u7 water units

  • ORP reading –200 to –450 is good drinking water

Note the extremes come from the drain tube not the flex tube

* Extremes

  • For high Acidic water use the highest pH setting on the unit, adjust the water flow rate to 1.0 lpm for c7 & p3 units and 1.2 lpm on u7 units then collect the Acidic water from the drain tube

  • For high Alkaline water use the lowest pH setting on the unit, adjust the water flow rate to 1.0 lpm on c7 & p3 units and 1.2 lpm on u7 units then collect the Alkaline water from the drain tube

Other Questions and Answers from Users

The questions have numbers [1 right, 2 right, etc.] so you can send someone to this section and tell them what answer to look for.

Q[1 right].  I'm on a well and I'm not getting any ionization!

A.  Take your ionizer to a home that uses municipal water. If it works normally with municipal water, your well may have high nitrates or some other problem. It is possible that the machine is malfunctioning, but it makes sense to try it with city water before (a) going to the trouble of sending it back and (b) doing extensive water testing.

Q[2 right].  I am seeing little chunks of minerals in my water. What is it and what should I do?

A. Try running the machine on the 5.0 setting for 3 minutes every day, once per day. More than likely, calcium has built up on the plates. The daily acid flush will help keep the scale from building up. This is not a bad idea even for someone who has not seen any minerals in their water. It may prolong the life of your unit.

Q[3 right].  I have a water softener. What should I do?

A.  You can permanently take your softener off line or have a plumber send water to your kitchen sink that bypasses the softener. The ionization process needs the calcium that is removed by softeners.

Q[4 right].  I have seen an impressive vegetable cleaning demo. It would not work with 10.0 water from my C7. What did I do wrong?

A.  You can order a Super Charger Filter that will boost your tap water as high as 11.4. Because the scale is logarithmic, this is almost 90% more powerful than 10.5. No ordering information but we will add it to this page when we find it.

Q[5 right].  What is a Remineralization Cartridge?

A.  It adds minerals (to low TDS water) to enable the ionization plates to charge the water and create alkaline and acidic waters.

Q[6 right].  Will the Remineralization Cartridge attach to all three units?

A.  For a U7 user whose water does not have enough minerals, get both a housing unit and a re-mineralization cartridge. The U7 parts:

US71142           Re-mineralization Cartridge

A.  For a C7 user whose water doesn’t have enough minerals, get both the housing unit (It sits on the counter beside the C7) and a re-mineralization cartridge. The C7 parts:

US40878           Counter top Single Filter (housing for Re-mineralization Cartridge)

US71142           Re-mineralization Cartridge

A.  For a P3 user whose water doesn’t have enough minerals, get both the housing unit that sits beside the P3 AND a re-mineralization cartridge.

US40878           Counter top Single Filter (housing for Re-mineralization Cartridge)

US71142           Re-mineralization Cartridge

Q[7 right].  How do I install a Remineralization Cartridge?

A.  Extra tubing comes with the housing. The small feeder line goes from the tap into the housing. Another line connects the housing to the water unit.  The tubing is cut to an appropriate length to avoid loops of hose behind your unit. If you cut your hoses, make sure that they are cut flush (no angle).

Water flows from the faucet through the re-mineralization cartridge; from there into the unit's Internal Filter (carbon filter) and then past the ionization plates.

Q[8 right].  How long will a cartridge last?

A.  The Standard Internal Filter will last 3000 gallons. The citric acid filter is a one-time use only. The re-mineralization cartridge doesn’t have a specific time on it. It depends on the water source and quality. If the taste of your water changes, it’s time to change the remineralization cartridge.

Q[9 right].  How much of my water is alkaline and how much goes out as acidic?

A.  For every 3 units flowing into the Essentials Living Water, 1.8 comes out as alkaline and 1.2 as acidic.

Q[10 right].  If I use a P3 only for meetings, how do I store the cartridge if the time in between uses is a couple of weeks?

A.  Put the cartridges/filters in a clean plastic bag in the refrigerator to keep them fresh. When you take them out of the fridge and put them back into your unit, run the water for a couple of minutes. These steps keep bacteria from growing in your cartridges/filters.

Q[11 right].  What units can use the Sodium Super Charger Filter?

A.  Only the C7. The C7 goes up to a pH of 10. If you want to raise the pH level as high as 11.5, you will need to use this filter.

Q[12 right].  Can the C7 be programmed to adapt to nonstandard water?

A.  Yes. Print out and follow these instructions: Programming your C7

Too Much Water Pressure?

Darwin Cuddeback from California writes: It seems that California always has a water pressure issue and/or hardness problems. A lot of people do not know their home's pressure or what they can do to lower it. A pressure reducer can be located just before the water line enters the home. Here is a picture of what one looks like. Most hardware stores have them and they are preset for 55 pounds. People's homes are at risk with the pressure at 85 psi or higher.

Like blood pressure; when it's too high, something goes wrong. Mine was almost 240 at the hospital earlier this year!
